We never planned to get another dog. Our hearts were still grieving the loss of our senior pup, Suna, who passed away years ago from kidney failure. She was everything to us. We still have our one remaining dog who grew up with her, plus three cats we rescued. We weren’t looking for another pet, but Star found us.

One day, while working at my old job at a coffee stand, a regular customer came through with a new dog. She’d had other dogs before, so I didn’t think much of it until the woman came back hysterical, saying she was going to have the dog put down because she couldn’t care for her anymore. Without hesitation, we said, “We’ll take her.”

That dog was Star.

We were told almost nothing, only that Star had lived with her siblings. But after a few weeks at home, we realized something was off. She was constantly peeing, everywhere, all the time. At first, we thought it was just puppy behavior, but it wasn’t. After vet visits, testing, and referrals, we found out the cause was ectopic ureter, which is a congenital defect where one of her kidney tubes bypasses the bladder and causes her to leak nonstop. It’s already damaged her right kidney, and if not treated soon, her left kidney could be next. Though not having much, I’ve always made sure our pets are fed, cared for, and deeply loved.

I dont like to ask for help or handouts but Star deserves better than waiting until it’s too late. We’ve already fallen in love with her and honestly, it feels like she was sent to us by Suna. Not only do they look similar… Suna’s personality shows up within Star a lot too. And ironically, just like Suna, she now wears diapers because of her kidney condition. We truly believe she’s a “Suna-sent” pup and we’re going to do everything we can to fight for her.

We’re raising funds to get Star the life-saving surgery she needs to correct her ectopic ureter and protect her one working kidney.

Although the veterinary office isn’t able to accept donations directly, we’re happy to provide documentation request and we will be attaching photos of the estimate. We’re committed to full transparency and will gladly answer any questions from those who want to help.
