Help Us Save St. Dom’s:
A Battle for Faith, Tradition, and Community
St. Dom’s has always been more than a school. Founded in 1941 by the Dominican order, it was born out of the dreams and sacrifices of immigrant families, parishioners, and volunteers who poured their hearts, hands, and hard-earned dollars into something bigger than themselves. For generations, it’s been a place where students of all faiths have been welcomed, shaped, and inspired.
When the Diocese of Portland announced the closure of St. Dominic Academy’s high school (grades 9–12) in Auburn, Maine, it felt like a crushing blow—not just to our school, but to the heart of our community.
But we’re not giving up. We refuse to stand by and watch 80 years of Catholic education, tradition, and community spirit disappear. Like David facing Goliath, we’re small—but we’re determined. A group of parents, alumni, teachers, professionals, and local faith leaders have come together with one mission: to preserve Catholic education in the Lewiston/Auburn area by transforming St. Dom’s into an independent school. But we can’t do it without you.
We’re asking for your support to raise $2,000,000. This is what we need to survive the next two years: to cover critical operational costs, offer financial aid to families who may otherwise be forced to walk away, and begin to rebuild our enrollment and stability.
A newly formed nonprofit board has submitted a plan to take on full financial and operational responsibility for the school. That means we’re relieving the Diocese of every cost—utilities, salaries, maintenance, insurance, everything. This isn’t a handout or a bailout. It’s a bold act of faith and community.
Thanks to overwhelming grassroots support, we already have enough converted pledges to begin building the administrative foundation to open this fall. To cross the finish line, we need more. We need you.
Your donation—whether $25 or $25,000—will help us keep the doors open, the lights on, and the hope alive. Together, we can preserve this vital institution for current students, future generations, and a community that believes in the power of faith, service, and education.
Please stand with us.
