Please Help Us Save our pet Spikey After a Traumatic Accident
Hi everyone,
I’m reaching out with a heavy heart to ask for help for our sweet guinea pig, Spikey, who has been a beloved part of our family for nearly 6 years.
Recently, Spikey was accidentally stepped on and suffered serious injuries to her face, including a possible broken jaw and damaged teeth and ribs.

I rushed Spikey to the emergency vet, and thankfully she received a mostly good health report—aside from a possible rib fracture or bruised lung. There was some blood in her mouth, so we checked for injuries there too, but nothing obvious was found at the time.
After she was given pain relief, I brought her home and fed her some critical care. Around 5am, as her medication started to wear off, she calmed down enough to let me check her mouth again. I managed to look at her back molars and front teeth, and that’s when I noticed her bottom right tooth was loose. It was actually a relief—it explained why she was having trouble eating.
Later that day, we booked her into an exotic vet for further evaluation & X-rays, which I was specifically asking for. However, the vet was more focused on other concerns like a possible urinary stone, and insisted on doing urine tests and an ultrasound, sedate her and get it out urgently instead. Due to cost, I asked to just proceed with the X-rays, since that was the main reason for the visit—but I was pressured into removing them from the plan in favour of the other tests.
When I went to pick Spikey up, I was told she didn’t have a urinary stone or any of the issues they were testing for. In fact, the vet mentioned they had been “wiggling her jaw” and it felt loose—so now they recommended the X-rays after all. I ended up having to get them done anyway, on top of the $700 in tests that turned out to be unnecessary.

We were now told the injuries were likely severe and were advised to euthanise her.
The estimated cost for the emergency consultation, ultrasound, sedation, X-ray imaging, critical care and medication was just over $1,500.
But Spikey still had a spark in her. Despite the vet's recommendation, we made the decision to bring her home and give her a chance—because she wasn’t giving up.
And she’s been proving us right ever since.
In the 5 days since the accident:
* She’s eating on her own
* She’s grooming herself
* She’s pooping normally
* She’s having chin rubs
* And she’s even gained 10 grams—a small but hopeful sign of recovery
We’re now seeking a second opinion from another experienced exotic vet to better understand the extent of her injuries and explore every possible option to help her heal.
I am a Student with limited income but I know my piggy and she is not ready to be put down.
Spikey is almost 6 years old, and she’s been with us through so much. She’s strong, resilient, and still full of life. I believe she deserves every chance I can give her.
We’re asking for help to cover:
* The second opinion consultation
* Imaging (X-rays of her skull or jaw)
* Pain relief and medications if needed
* Potential dental or jaw treatment
Exotic pet care is expensive, and any amount—no matter how small—will help us continue giving Spikey the support she needs.
Thank you so much for reading, supporting, and caring. Even sharing this campaign makes a difference. We’re just doing everything we can to give Spikey the fighting chance she’s already showing she wants.

I’m posting updates about Spikey on my socials when I can. She has been making small progress everyday which gives me hope. Having another diagnosis or possibly a more accurate one will aid me in helping Spikey as best I can.

Spikey is the most amazing piggy ever and I just cannot imagine my life without her. She has been there for me through the toughest times and has shown me nothing but unconditional love. In return I want to try to save her life.

Socials to check out Spikey or even help by boosting posts so I can maybe make money that way:

I also sell pea flakes for small animals Australia wide so if u want to help out and have a small animal u can buy some Instagram treats from my store

With gratitude & love ❤️
