With the closure of Virtuous Pie, Gnarlys, Paradox Café, and so many other beloved all-vegan establishments, it’s heartbreaking to share that Speedo Cappuccino will also be closing soon.
While they do have hopes to reopen, there’s currently no clear timeline for when or how that will happen. As someone who deeply values this space—not just as a vegan café, but as a queer-affirming, community-driven business; I want to encourage everyone to rally around them.
In a time when vegan businesses are struggling to stay afloat, it would be a real loss to see another one disappear. Supporting Speedo Cappuccino, even in small ways, helps preserve a place that stands for compassion, inclusivity, and creativity.
Let’s do what we can to keep this vital piece of our community alive. ❤️️
Since opening in 2021, Speedo Cappuccino been named one of Portland’s Top Food Carts by Willamette Week, Eater, and Forbes, and they were honored with the 2024 Community Impact Award from Oregon’s Queer Chamber of Commerce.
They are also the organizers of The Slut Pedal, a community bike ride and resource distribution event for queer sex workers, supported by partnerships with sex work-specific nonprofits and the Portland Bureau of Transportation.
Lastly, I want to highlight some of their delicious comfort food—from crunch-wraps and corn dogs to chicken sandwiches, burgers, and even deep-fried Oreos.
