Socks was admitted to ICU once more overnight. They were unable to find a matching donor for him when his blood count went down to 10 which is barely compatible with life! They sent him home saying there was nothing more they could do for him. We were devastated not knowing if he would survive after everything he's been through! We held our breath and Lisa took him to Vetco for another blood draw after 10 days at home. He's at 16 now without a transfusion! This indicates the medication therapy Lisa is religiously administering appears to be working! He's also gained weight and is now at 10 lbs! His fur is starting to grow in and the open wounds are nearly gone.
He's far from done with treatment however. Please continue to pray, share his story and donations are slow now that time has passed. We're far from the ultimate goal for this fundraiser. THANK YOU with all sincerity for gracious support for this special boy. We cannot express enough what your help and support mean. Stay tuned.

Socks was allowed to go home on Friday 7/25 late in the day. There was nothing more the hospital could do for him after his bone marrow biopsy. He had a blood draw this morning at 9:45 and thankfully it went up from Friday 16 to 21! He's also gained 7 oz! He's looking better but one of the tests came back that he does have mycoplasma. You can read about that if you're interested. The marrow biopsy is going to be key to determining his long term treatment. The first bill we got from the hospital was $7,642.41 (photo attached). We're not done yet. Please share Socks story and help boost donations please! Visited Socks at his new home on Saturday and he was following Lisa from room to room and refused to let her out of his sight! It was adorable. He's sleeping in the big bed and Lisa said he sleeps on her head at the top of the pillow! His next blood draw will be Friday to see if he's still generating red blood cells which we hope will be much higher with love, meds and food! Thank you each and every one who is following this story as it progresses and for your donations to help with his recovery! He so deserves a second chance!

More bad news for Socks. His red blood cells dropped from 22% to 18%. One of the tests shows he's not producing mature red blood cells. This means tomorrow they are going to do a bone marrow sample. We're down to two possible diagnosis - C__r or parasitic infectious disease. They're starting him back on broad spectrum antibiotics today. Lisa is going to see him this afternoon. I am not able to go. Don't know what time his procedure will be tomorrow. His bill keeps climbing... share his story please. We need all the help we can get! Thank you all so very much for your love and support!!! It means everything right now.
Update from the ICU today 7/23. Today was Socks "rest" day. Results from abdominal ultrasound showed nothing of real significance. His blood count was still at 22% today. Another sample will be taken in the morning. IF it drops, they will do a bone marrow sampling. If it remains the same he may get to go home with Lisa and come back for another recheck in the near future. He was kinda out of it today because he was on sleepy meds to keep him quiet and resting. So tomorrow is our next big hurdle to overcome. It can take a while for his count to rise so if he remains at 22% tomorrow, he is considered stable enough to go home. He's been taken off diuretics as his respiratory condition has also improved. He's eating well, making biscuits and purring loudly! We got the update on his bill as well. $4800-6,000. If you have ever had a seriously injured fur baby, you know this is actually very reasonable. That number will be shocking to some of you but the veterans (like me) know the reality of this. Here are the photos from today. Enjoy. Continue to share Socks story. I created a QR code to make it easier to get to the go fund me page. You can screenshot it and share it! I put up a flyer at work today with Socks photo and a brief sentence about him with the QR code, saying scan this code for more information. I'm posting updates on the go fund me page as well so anybody that goes there will have up to date info as well. Thank you to each and every one of you who are supporting Socks in any way! He's such a special cat!
UPDATE: 7/21 9:30 P.M.
Socks has been hospitalized at NC State Vet Hospital. He is in critical but stable condition. I noticed this morning that his stool was black looking and he was withdrawn. I had him scheduled for blood test and xray today. Red Blood count still 16%, same as Saturday. Xray showed other concerns we weren't expecting that showed he was more critical than first thought. He's possibly bleeding internally and the goal is to find out if that's happening and get it stopped. He's going to have at least one infusion tonight. He will also have a CT scan to better identify the status of his vital organs as not all were visible on the xray! Malnutrition can cause this to happen is my understanding.
I will continue updating here as well as on nextdoor and my limited reach on FB. We need your help more than ever!

Hi Everyone! My name is Beckie and I'm advocating for this sweet abandoned boy that we're calling Socks. I saw his post on Nextdoor for my neighborhood. He was in poor condition at a local Walgreens parking lot. My daughter is a trained vet tech so we rushed over to collect him. Surprised, he came right up to us and we quickly put him in a carrier and took him home. He got an oatmeal and aloe bath and some soft cat food. I stayed with him all night just watching. He never slept. The next morning he was taken to the vet my daughter works for and they did all the necessary tests to determine his condition. He weighs 8 lbs, is between 2-3 years old and tested positive for Feline Aids. He's got a severe upper respiratory infection and a 13% red blood cell count so he's extremely anemic. The open wounds on his face and missing fur are likely due to itch mites and fleas. He's was given IV fluids, rabies shot, steroids and antibiotics for the infections, topical flea/mite killer and a dewormer.
A blood transfusion would speed up his body to heal but the vet advised to wait a few days and see if he can rally on his own as infusion requires hospital stay and is minimum $1k.
Today is July 19 and he is just as affectionate and sweet as the second we encountered him in that dark parking lot in the bushes.
He deserves to get the best medical care and the best furever home for the rest of his life after being abandoned.
Our vet bills are mounting and we are getting discounts because my daughter works for the vet. I'm starting this fund small as I'm very cost conscious and I'm trusting that nature will do its part to help our boy recover swiftly.
Our bills for the last two days are just under $400. He's going back in on Monday for another blood draw which will help us determine if the transfusion will be necessary.
Please pray first. Please don't put yourself in a situation to donate. Donate what you feel comfortable with. I would gladly absorb the cost to save this life if I had to but additional help will make it easier for me to be sure he gets the timely help he needs. I'm doing all the transporting, feeding and medicine administration and encouraging his healing with lots of lap time and cuddles.
Thank you in advance for whatever you are able to do: prayer support, financial or just positive encouragement! It is deeply appreciated.
Let's restore this beautiful spirit together. Amen.
