Thank you so much to everyone who shared and contributed to the Save Social Sports GoFundMe campaign!
We ultimately raised $3,961, which the Sport & Social Industry Association matched dollar for dollar, bringing our campaign total to $7,922.
With the funds, each of our members will have the choice to apply their portion towards:
1) Their own business expenses
2) Future membership dues
3) Sport & Social Industry Association initiatives to help our members overcome challenges related to the COVID-19 pandemic
Thank you again for your generosity! We couldn't have done it without your support!

Help us SAVE SOCIAL SPORTS!!
100% of the donations from this campaign will go towards helping our association’s members weather this storm, and in turn, help them support their communities. For every dollar raised by 11:59pm on May 31st, another dollar will be matched (up to $10,000).

Maybe you’ve met some great friends or the person who eventually became your spouse, found a job or roommate, adopted a pet, or simply fell in love with your city...all because of the community created by your local sport and social club.
If you’re missing your Thursday night Kickball league or Sunday afternoon beach volleyball, or you’re bummed because that awesome St. Patrick's Day Pub Crawl you had been looking forward to attending didn't happen this year, you aren’t alone and your support is needed to ensure we can all collectively get back to community building activities as soon as it is safe to do so.
My name is Krissy Greenleaf, and I am the Executive Director of the Sport & Social Industry Association. The SSIA is a nonprofit trade organization that has been helping sport and social clubs thrive and grow over the past 10 years through networking, knowledge share, purchasing programs and an annual conference for clubs across the United States and Canada.
Currently, we have 57 members operating independent businesses in over 120 markets. Each of those clubs is a small business that is deeply connected with their local community and has been impacted severely by business shutdowns, shelter-in-places orders and social distancing measures. These small businesses and staff are doing their part to help flatten the infection curve and are dedicated to helping us weather this global challenge.
Overnight, nearly all of our member clubs have seen their businesses shuttered, while hundreds of thousands of their 2 million annual participants saw their leagues, tournaments, social events, fun runs, festivals and pub crawls shut down.
As you can imagine, social distancing is the opposite of social sports, so the COVID-19 pandemic has quickly and devastatingly affected every member of our organization. Over the past month, many of our members have had to lay off or furlough long-time, dedicated and beloved employees; apply for lines of credit and loans that may or may not be forgiven and are taking too long to arrive; and face the harsh reality that some of their businesses may not survive if they do not receive relief ASAP.
As I have listened to their fears and concerns, I initially felt that the main way the SSIA could support them was to continue offering our weekly calls, research loan options and other forms of relief, and provide them with a sense of calm during this crisis. I want to do more, and the best way I can think to do that is to create this fundraising campaign and ask for your help.
It has been amazing to see how our members have pulled together through roundtable discussions and brainstorming sessions aimed at finding new ways to bring adults together during this difficult and unprecedented time. Right now, they obviously can’t be doing this on the field, at a post-game happy hour, or at one of their many fun tournaments or events, but I have seen many of them pivot to the creation of online communities, virtual trivia, online bingo and e-gaming to help their players stay connected.
It has also been impressive to see that so many of the employees who have been laid off or furloughed have continued participating in the calls and researching ways that their clubs and our industry can get back to business when this pandemic passes. We are all working together to save our industry. Now, we are asking for your support as well to help us save the social sports industry and the small businesses that drive it.
100% of the donations from this campaign will go towards helping our association’s members weather this storm, and in turn, help them support their communities. For every dollar raised through $5000, the SSIA will match it. For every dollar raised between $5001-$10,000, United Fray, a member of the association, will match it. (Please note that funds raised through this campaign are not tax deductible.)
