Sloane is a 20 year old welsh pony in the Wish Upon a horse killpen in Texas. A gorgeous welsh pony with so much love in his eyes and so much left to give. My name is Kristina Phillips, I’m a freshman in college and my ever since I was little my dream has been to rescue a killpen horse. It’s crazy to think, but when I was 12 I discovered the killpen industry and I was immediately drawn to helping the thousands of sweet horses that end up in them each year. More than anything I wanted to rescue one, make it my own and teach it to ride and make it feel loved and give it some tlc. Unfortunately, at age 12 I nor had the experience or parental approval for such a task, so I continued to ride lesson ponies and my own personal horses. But, I still wanted to help in other ways, so over the course of my teenage years I made over 20 fundraisers, saving horses in the slaughter pipeline and finding new homes for them and see their new owners give me updates. I was proud of the work I was doing, but I still longed for the chance to do it myself: take on my own killpen rescue. Flash forward to now and I’m 18, looking for my first project horse and I immediately knew I wanted a killpen rescue, that’s when I discovered sloane. As soon as I saw him, my heart fluttered: this pony was my perfect first rescue. There was something about him, in the 1 minute video, I don’t know what but something told me he was the one. If I’m able to raise the funds, sloane’s bail will be paid and he will be transported to North Carolina where I live and quarantined with a friend of mine for a few weeks then transported to my trainers barn where we will work with him and give him a second chance as a English riding horse and small jumper, perhaps even a lesson pony for young kids!
