Save Sindh. One Village At A Time.

We are Zain Rafiq (a student at The American School in London) and Taniya Zaffar Khan (Trustee on the Board of the Ali Hasan Mangi Memorial Trust).

This is an urgent appeal for international assistance as floods devastate Pakistan, and the country braces for worse to come.

With 33 million people affected and displaced so far (that is 15% of the population of Pakistan), the country is dealing with a humanitarian crisis of epic proportions. In the south eastern province of Sindh, the message in every village the BBC visited was: “Send help.”

The Ali Hasan Mangi Memorial Trust (http://www.alihasanmangitrust.org/) was setup in 2008, with a mission to uplift the lives of people in impoverished village communities in Sindh, through integrated rural development. 14 years on, we have expanded operations to almost 160 villages, in 3 districts.

Our core focus areas are Community Infrastructure, Family Assistance, Healthcare and Education. But for now, we have temporarily halted all projects to focus on emergency relief in Sindh.

So far, we have housed 400 flood victims at our Community Center in Khairo Dero, and at local schools in the village. We are providing them with food, basic supplies and medical care. Once the rain stops and the water recedes, only then will we be able to fully asses the extent of damage done, and the scope of impending rehabilitation efforts.

In a country already battling an economic crisis and political instability, these unprecedented rains of summer 2022 have set our most vulnerable people back in the most unfathomable way.
