In 2022, unprecedented floods have demolished Sindh including the agriculture, homes, schools and hospitals. Millions of people have been displaced and to this day approximately 8 million people are still potentially exposed to flood waters. Among the primary humanitarian concerns are disease outbreaks and desolate food security situations. Poverty rates have increased in Sindh in these flood affected areas where people lack access to clean water, food and shelter- these are basic needs for human survival. Sindh is vital to Pakistan's economy as it is the largest contributor to food security in producing livestock and maintaining agricultural land and is the main source of income in Sindh. I, Tariq, have physically visited Sindh to gain first-hand insight on what was happening and where the Sindhi people stand now that the floods have slowly come to a halt. In my time there I saw that there were no nonprofit organizations aiding the people who had been most affected and there were no efforts made by these groups to help restructure. The devastation of the flood has decreased the quality of life for Sindhi people in a startlingly low amount of time. The people of Sindh barely have enough resources to go around to all those who were affected and the Pakistani government is not being proactive in ensuring that the basic needs of these people are met. Many children have been out of school for weeks now with no options to go back. There is a massive food insecurity and not enough tent shelter for families to reside in in the meantime. My first hand account showcased the true atrocity which was that no help was being given to those who needed it the most.

It is our duty to support the thousands of displaced women, men and children that have had their lives fallen apart due to this devastation. My plan in Sindh is to create a school, The Hoshu Sheedi School of Sindh, in order to accommodate all the children and young adults who have been unable to attend school due to the wreckage. Hoshu Sheedi was a supreme commander of the Sindhi Army in the 1800’s and bravely fought against the British forces to protect Sindh. It is said that his dying words were, “We will die but we will not give up Sindh”. This love for his people is where I have built the conviction to help and support my people as well. In doing this I plan to build a school for K through primary school, secondary school as well as higher secondary. This will be a place for Sindhi children and those devastated by the floods to have access to education with high-technology facilities to aid the process and achieve success. A generous friend of mine has graciously donated 10 acres of land to this cause. It is located in Zan Farm House, Dah Gojro, Talka Dor Village Pir Noor Din Shah Rashdi, Nawabshah Sindh. This is where the school will be built and located, other friends of mine have also graciously donated land to this cause as well. Any donation will be greatly appreciated- these funds will be directly used to help build this school including materials for infrastructure, technology, books and supplies etc.
