Save Shoe!
TLDR: Our beloved kitty Shoe was diagnosed with saddle thrombus and congestive heart failure. There is some good prognoses so we’re moving forward with treatment. Help us save Shoe!
Long story: On 12/30 Shoe was stumbling around and unable to use his back legs. He began panting heavily and crying so we immediately took him to the emergency vet. They couldn’t find anything and he seemed to bounce back so we went home with our baby and made an appointment to follow up with his primary. He was in good spirits until 1/5 when he lost use of his back legs again. We took him back to the emergency vet where he continued to deteriorate and they diagnosed him with saddle thrombus, a blood clot from an untreatable heart disease. It started in his heart and traveled to his back legs, cutting off the blood supply there. Euthanizing him was an option we weren’t expecting so soon. Upon my sister’s recommendation (she’s also a vet) we took him to Ames that very night to receive more specialized care. There, they confirmed saddle thrombus but also diagnosed him with congestive heart failure. He still has movement in his legs and seems to have some good prognoses, so we’re moving forward with treatment. There’s a small but very real chance that he can survive this. Help us save Shoe!
