Meet Shanti, a foster 4-month-old Maltese puppy, full of love and joy despite facing difficult health challenges. Shanti has been diagnosed with a portosystemic liver shunt (a serious liver condition) causing temporary blindness and neurological issues. While his blindness and neurological issues have improved thanks to multiple medications, this treatment is not a long-term solution, and Shanti urgently needs surgery to correct his liver condition.
What is a Portosystemic Liver Shunt (PLS)?
A portosystemic liver shunt is a condition where blood bypasses Shanti’s liver, which means his liver cannot properly filter toxins from his bloodstream. Without treatment, this is life-threatening. The surgical procedure to correct the shunt is the only sustainable solution.
When I first met Shanti nearly a month ago he was very weak and blind. The care he is receiving through Eilat Animals (https://www.facebook.com/eilatanimals) is incredible and he has undergone a huge transformation while on the proper medication and diet. He is so full of life, bringing immense joy to those around him. However, his current treatment is only masking the problem and isn’t sustainable in the long run. The medications help him get by for now, but the only way to truly improve his quality of life is through surgery to correct his liver shunt.
How You Can Help:
The cost of Shanti’s surgery, medications, and ongoing care is overwhelming. Every donation will go directly to his medical needs, including:
- CT Scan
- Liver Shunt Surgery
- Post-surgery care and medications
Shanti is a sweet, loving puppy who deserves to live a full and healthy life. He has already shown incredible strength in overcoming his challenges. Your support—whether it’s through a donation, sharing his story, or sending words of encouragement—will make all the difference.
Thank you for being part of Shanti’s journey.
Together, we can give him the life he deserves.
With love and gratitude,
Rachel
