ROOTS SF- female, black, japanese biz could close
Donation protected
If you have ever had the pleasure of meeting Michelle Reed of Roots SF, chances are that she has made a lasting impression on you. Michelle is the owner of a San Francisco plant shop staple, Roots SF. She's located at 425 South Van Ness Ave, and first opened her business in February of 2012. Her company has been going strong for the last 10 years. Yet, due to the harsh impacts of COVID and minimal support to small businesses, there is an extreme likelihood that she will have to close her doors if she doesn't receive support from our community ASAP.
Michelle has been so much more than a plant supplier to many of you. She has been an empathetic ear, a gift giver, a friend, and a selfless + hilarious ray of joy with her shop dog Ziggy. Michelle would never ask for anything from anyone but would give you the shirt off her back if you needed it. She has an eye for design and profound knowledge and passion for interior foliage. Roots is a place where you can be inspired, educated, and listened to. Her store has been a refuge for plant enthusiasts and artists alike and is an institution that San Francisco can't afford to lose.
Michelle is a true inspiration for female entrepreneurs, Black entrepreneurs, Japanese entrepreneurs, and plantrepreneurs. There has been little aid to small businesses, and we need to do our part to make sure small businesses like this remain pillars of our community.
If you have ever been to this shop, I ask that you donate what you can. No donation is too small. Help keep this magical space from closing!
