THE PLAN HAS CHANGED. SEW EASY IS CLOSING. PLEASE READ UPDATES!
Original text:
Hi! We're Danielle, Jan and Nell, employees of a fantastic local yarn and fabric store on the Sunshine Coast of BC, Canada. Our beloved boss is retiring, and though Sew Easy has been up for sale for some time, it's looking like she'll have to close. The community is voicing their sadness! Sew Easy has a lovely friendly atmosphere, is one of the last local yarn, fabric and notion shops standing, and serves a regular customer base that spreads from Powell River to Chilliwack and beyond. (That's over 270km of highway, and includes a ferry in both directions!)
Sew Easy is so much more than yarn and fabric! There's the embroidery supplies, kits, felting, dyes, macrame, notions, patterns, pattern printing, books, sewing machines, shared knowledge and expertise, show and tell, and ideas exchange.
The doors have been open for 52 years. It would be such a shame to close them now.
The solution? We're creating a cooperative association to take over the store, and we need your help! We need to buy the business and assets, secure insurance, renegotiate and pay the lease, and pay legal and accounting consulting fees for the creation of the co-op.
Donating to this fundraiser does not constitute membership into the co-op. Membership and investment opportunities will be addressed if we are able to purchase Sew Easy.
We recognise it is a cherished store for all levels and abilities who come for inspiration, creativity and connection which we want to continue and grow with the community and beyond, expanding on workshops, classes, exchanges and events
Collectively we do not have the finances to purchase the business. However between us we do bring all the skills and experience needed along with bucket loads of passion, ideas and enthusiasm to keep Sew Easy going for us all. Be part of the solution! Help us buy our store!
After all our efforts to make this work, should we not be able to save Sew Easy, all money left over will be used for events and programs so our Co-op can support all stitching creatives in our community and beyond. We think this best captures the legacy of Sew Easy’s 52 year history supporting our stitching community.
