Save Sedona’s Heart - PDA

Hi everyone,
My name’s Megan, I’m a friend of Jess’s (Sedona’s mum). I wanted to kick start this page as I know Jess feels really uncomfortable about the idea of asking for this kind of help. However, the reality is Sedona needs treatment quickly before irreversible heart damage occurs.
When Sedona was a puppy she was diagnosed with a heart murmur that initially didn’t seem serious. What has been revealed yesterday by the veterinary cardiologist is that Sedona has Patent Ductus Arteriosus. So when she was born the blood vessel that joins the aorta and pulmonary artery in utero didn’t close as it should have. Ultimately, this means Sedona’s heart has been working a lot harder to get enough blood to her body, causing the left side of her heart to become enlarged over her lifetime. Left untreated the vet estimates heart failure will occur in 1-3 years.
The options for treatment involve open chest surgery/ligation (~$6K) or the use of an Amplatz Canine Duct Occluder ($9-10K). The ACDO is the ideal option as it’s inserted via a catheter to plug the opening, therefore is less invasive and risky compared to open chest surgery. However, it is significantly more expensive than the surgical ligation (which is already very expensive).
If anyone does feel they would like to contribute or share this link it would be incredibly appreciated.
P.S. Jess is going to organise some online goodies as another way you can support the cause. All proceeds from these will go towards Sedona’s surgery.
