Recently The Secret DJ was rushed to hospital after contracting Covid19 for the second time. After an emergency helicopter from Ibiza to the ICU in Majorca, he spent two weeks on a ventilator in an induced coma, also suffering bronchitis, pneumonia, MRSI and at one point even flatlining. The good news is that he survived - but with lung damage, loss of nearly a third of body mass, a large hospital bill and a lengthy forthcoming period of convalescence and physiotherapy.
The UK tour that was planned for this year has of course been postponed. After 18 months of being unable to earn money from DJing, this has come as a hammer blow to finances that were already dependent on the small income from book sales and music - and already in debt thanks to investment in the SDJ project that was unable to come to fruition because of the pandemic.
After years of activism, supporting what's best about dance music and club culture, helping others in the scene and at times simply speaking unpopular truths, now he's in a position where he really needs help. Anyone who's read his books or tweets or knows him personally will know how hard it is for a proudly self-sufficient character to ask, so we decided to ask for him. If you are able to help - especially if he's ever helped you out with a guest list or a shout out or advice or even just by saying what needed to be said without fear or favour, now would be the time. We've set up a Gofundme that will go 100% towards his medical bills past and future, with a target of £20k.
Many many thanks on his behalf for the hundreds of messages of support and concern on the socials and elsewhere. We know it's been both humbling and hugely encouraging for him to wake up to.
If you can contribute then please do, enough people doing what they can and we'll soon get there. Please help support one of the good guys in our scene while he gets back on his feet and back to what he does best - DJing, making music, writing, and generally being the onion in the custard for an industry that, more than ever, needs to be loudly held to account. Anything you can manage will be hugely appreciated.
The Secret DJ management team.
