Save Scientastic!

I’m a student who attends The Scientastic Institute in Wellington, Florida. Scientastic is a science education center and a small family business owned by the most kind, loving, caring, and incredibly intelligent people I know. Samara and Jay Osowiecki have dedicated their lives to public service, science, and sharing their incredible knowledge and passion for learning with their students. Scientastic has been a welcoming home for everyone. Jay’s infectious smile and joyous laughter inspires a love of learning while Samara’s gentle and nurturing spirit is evident the moment you meet her. They both radiate an abundance of kindness and love. Scientastic has provided a safe space for kids and teens of any color, gender, sex, or affiliation to connect with each other and trusted adults. A place where special needs students can receive personalized instruction and assistance with any subject. Samara and Jay have provided the support that so many of us needed, and we can't thank them enough for everything they have done. Scientasitic has truly changed my life and perspective on learning.

Like many other small businesses, Scientastic closed temporarily in March due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Unfortunately not long after, Jay was unexpectedly hospitalized for nearly two months with a severe infection. Unable to visit Jay in the hospital, it was a difficult time for Samara and the entire Scientastic family. Despite the dreadful circumstances, their positivity persevered. While still recovering from his illness, Jay began with a single virtual Biology lab from home to help their students in need. Unfortunately, it has not been enough to keep things going and Scientasitic is struggling to continue. In January, without our help, Scientastic will close its doors permanently after 6 years of building the Scientastic family.

In an effort to keep this from happening, I’m asking for everyone’s help to assist Jay and Samara to save Scientastic! Any amount you can contribute is greatly appreciated. I know I speak for all Jay and Samara’s students (and the many animals who reside at Scientastic) when I say, losing this very special place would be absolutely devastating.  After all of these years of hard work and dedication from Samara and Jay, I believe it’s time we reciprocate for all that they’ve done for their students and community! Our future needs science.

If you want to know more about Jay and Samara here’s more detail on their life’s work:

After completing her degree in zoology from the University of Florida, Samara worked extensively in both formal and informal education. She’s developed and implemented programs for zoological facilities, tutored students in math and science, and even taught in the public school system. Jay possesses a love of all thing's aviation, and along with it, a love of the sciences. He has been a licensed commercial pilot for over 25 years, and during that time has worked as an instructor for the U.S. Space & Rocket Center, a project manager for the Advanced Concepts Division at Pratt & Whitney Aircraft, and a science teacher in the Palm Beach County school system. Jay has over 20 years of professional engineering experience. In recent years, after becoming parents, they re-discovered their love of teaching and were inspired to create The Scientastic Institute. It’s not only an awesome place to learn about practically anything you would want to know, but is also a great place to play games and watch movies with your Scientastic family. A day at Scientasic is ALWAYS a fun day full of laughter, learning, and smiles.
