MUSEO 956 - Save San Juan Hotel: Preserve Our History

Donation protected
We are a group of community members that are advocating to Save the San Juan Hotel, which the City of San Juan has voted to demolish. The San Juan Hotel is a site that symbolizes the colonization of the Rio Grande Valley, racial violence, and segregation in the 20th century. We started our fundraiser in order to create a summer pop-up museum to tell this story. Six months later, we are still here thanks to the interest and generosity of our community. Today, we seek to continue keeping the doors open to Museo 956 de Derechos Civiles and free admission throughout 2026. We host an exhibit on the role of the San Juan Hotel in colonization and racial violence at the turn of the 20th century. We also host educational events featuring talks, art-making, vending, oral history recording, and more. However, we need your help to make this a reality. We need funds to pay for rent, supplies, internet, and more.

Will you help us tell and preserve this history?

You can also help by signing our petition, following us on Facebook and Instagram or purchase something from our Amazon Wish List which will be sent directly to us.
