Hello, my name is Tracy and I am a resident of Coventry Connecticut. Last July, we found Samson as an approximately 5-week-old kitten discarded from his feral colony. He was extremely ill and found clinging to a gutter during a rainstorm. Samson was brought into our home and received daily antibiotics for 16 weeks to treat many infections. During that time he became very attached to my youngest children and although the intent was never to keep him as a pet, he has never left. He was released outdoors when he became well since he does not show an interest in staying inside. He has quickly become friend to all in our neighborhood. He will walk alongside patrons and jog alongside children and strollers. He is loved by all and very very friendly. Sadly he was struck by a car sometime while I was out of town. My neighbor called and we quickly returned home and brought him to our family vet. Where we found out sadly his humerus has a severely compounded fracture. The vet has assured us that this injury is nothing that can heal on its own and the cat does not have a good prognosis if not to receive immediate surgery. We are trying to raise funds to proceed with the recommended surgery which includes screwing, a titanium plate to his leg bone and wrapping in wire mesh. This process will cost around $6,000 and then we'll require a lifetime of special Care and attention. The second option would be amputation which is about $2,000 less but is not the most recommended for an outdoor cat as it makes him likely to become prey for wild animals. I am sharing this with all of the animal lovers out in the community who may want to help us reach the goal to get Samson's surgery completed. Not only will you be saving this young cats leg but you will be saving two young girls from certain heartbreak. Their dog passed away shortly before we found Samson and he has finally started to fill a hole in their hearts. We need to make a decision quickly so any initial contributions will be taken into consideration when determining the the route we need to take. We are greatly against the idea of euthanizing however, if funds cannot be raised to perform the surgery. It would be cruel to keep him alive due to the amount of pain he is in.
