update: 04/25/25 Yall have done it!!! Enough money has been raised to pay for the surgery! As of today I’m closing the go fund me. Also my mom will no longer be fostering Rusty. She is unable with her declining health. One of the ladies in the Lost pets group is going to foster him until he finds a permanent home. I want to thank everyone for coming together to help this poor stray cat.
update: 04/21/25 I’ve put a new picture of Rusty up. This poor baby has been in some horrible pain. The vet did not send any pain meds home for him. We are still $550 short of paying the vet bill. He can’t go back till it’s paid then will need money for another visit and to cover pain meds. I hate that he is suffering and I can’t do anything to help him. It breaks my heart when I hear him crying out in pain!
04/12/25 Rusty is slowly healing. He can’t go back to the vet till the bill for surgery is paid off. And that doesn’t include follow up care. We still need more donations. Just the vet bill is over $1,000 not including follow up and it’s over an hour drive to the vet round trip. Please continue to help out on this long journey.
04/10/25 Update: Rusty had the surgery with me agreeing to keep the go fund me up till the bill was paid. He is walking pretty good as a tripod as he must have been injured for a while. Rusty is home with my parents. We couldnt keep him any longer at the vet as we didn’t have the money to do so. There is still a bill of $1,032 needed. I was told he could not come back for check ups or anything until the bill is paid. That being said the $1,032 does not include follow up care. Rusty is staying in my mom’s room to give him an adjustment period. He seems to be making himself at home. Hes even been on her bed and got up there by himself.
This is Rusty. He is a stray that showed up at my parents' apartment. His back hind leg sits on his hip now, and he is in horrible pain. With the help of many people, we had enough money for him to be seen at a vet's office. Unfortunately, Rusty is in critical condition! His urine is brown from dehydration, his blood is thin as water, making him anemic, his entire body is septic, and now the infection is eating away at his bone and joint. His leg isn’t attached to anything, and he is full of parasites inside and out! His leg needs to be amputated, he needs several rounds of antibiotics, he needs IV fluids for several days, and an intense hospital stay. The vet said with all that’s going on, we need to raise $3,000 more than what we’ve already come up with. I just got off the phone with an update. They were wanting to do the surgery today; however, he is still too weak. The vet is hoping he’ll be stronger after a night on antibiotics and fluids. So hopefully, he’ll have surgery tomorrow. With him being so critical, we can only pray he makes it through the surgery. Everyone at the vet office loves him, remarking on how sweet, gentle, and kind he is despite his immense pain. Rusty is being treated at Stafford Vet Hospital in Hammond, La.
Update 1:20pm Mon. Cats surgery went good they are just working on getting his temp back up. He’s on a heating pad and his temp is starting to come up. He will have to stay at the vet for at least a week
