UPDATE: Ringo had a little setback last night and is receiving another blood transfusion today. His body is still attacking his platelets, which prevents his blood from clotting and has caused some internal bleeding, leading to the anemia. The hopeful news is that his body is producing new red blood cells, just not quickly enough yet, and the transfusion should help him feel much better while we wait for those platelets to recover.
The vet remains optimistic that he’ll start to turn the corner in the next few days, and we’re holding on to that hope. We’ll be visiting him tomorrow, and in every single update the vet makes a point to say what a wonderful boy and patient he is. ❤️
Thank you all so much for your continued love, prayers, and support for Ringo. It means the world to us to know how many people are rooting for him.
This is Ringo, a five-year-old rescue dog who is loved so much and is fighting for his life. Please help him get the emergency veterinary specialty services he needs to save his life.
Ringo has been diagnosed with Immune-mediated Thrombocytopenia (IMTP). This is a life-threatening disease that causes his body to attack his platelets. Platelets are the cells that help the body clot blood. Without platelets, serious bleeding occurs. Ringo is bleeding into his stomach and intestines. His gums are bleeding as well as his nose. Just normal everyday moving around puts him at risk for bruising and further bleeding.
Ringo’s platelet count should normally be 150,000 to 450,000. His platelet count is less than 1,000 currently.
He has already been started on medications to suppress his immune system to make his body stop attacking his platelets, and he has also had a blood transfusion to replenish the blood he is losing. He continues to need further, more specialized care. With treatment, Ringo can recover and live a full, happy life. Please consider donating to help with the cost of Ringo’s life-saving care!
