My filmmaker friend from Austin, TX is trying to save “Righty” the one-clawed lobster who is currently in captivity in the seafood department of the business he works at. They don’t feed the lobsters there or it would cloud the tank and cost the store more money in the end. Righty has been surviving for 3 months with whatever organic matter has been floating around in the tank … we are assuming no one has *bought* Righty because he only has 1 big claw and isn’t as *meaty*.
My friend Frank and I wanted to give Righty a home and started looking for someone with a saltwater tank. Frank made a Facebook post which I then shared to over 15 saltwater tank and aquarium enthusiast groups and forums, one of which quickly received over 350 likes, 180 comments, and 34 shares. After just hours of searching, commenting, and spreading the word, my post in the Entomemeology Facebook group reached the feed of an aquatic science teacher named Ms. Bivens — who just so happens to work at a school in Dripping Springs just outside of Austin! She mentioned she has an empty tank in her classroom and would love to give Righty a home; she only needs help purchasing a chiller to make sure the water is the proper temperature for him to thrive!
Any funds raised would go towards this purchase as well as food and clean water for Righty.
Not only will he have a safe, comfortable, and caring environment, but he will finally get to eat real food again and simultaneously serve as an exceptional example of humanity, love, and education for the classroom full of kids he will be staying with going forward.
I’ve included screenshots of the original post as well as of the comments showing unwavering support and encouraging words that we’ve received over the last 36 hours.
THANK YOU FOR SAVING RIGHTY!!!
