Hi everyone,
I’m reaching out on behalf of my sweet nephew—who happens to have four legs and the biggest heart. Rico is my sister Catherine’s beloved French Bulldog, and he is more than just a pet—he’s her best friend, her adventure buddy, and a huge part of our family.
Rico’s journey hasn’t been an easy one. Before finding his forever home with Catherine, he was neglected by his previous owners. But everything changed when she adopted him through SoCal French Bulldog Rescue, giving him the love, security, and second chance he deserved. Since then, Rico has thrived. He loves to play at the beach, sunbathe, and fetch his favorite toys—he’s even surfed and skateboarded a few times! But most of all, he just loves being by his mama's side.
A few days ago, Rico was diagnosed with Intervertebral Disc Disease (IVDD), a serious spinal condition that, if left untreated, will likely leave him unable to walk. He needs urgent spinal surgery to save his mobility. Right now, he’s still able to get around, but his condition is worsening, and surgery is his best chance at maintaining his mobility and quality of life. The surgery has a 95% success rate.
Rico is only 4 years old and is full of life and joy. Seeing him in pain and unable to move the way he used to is heartbreaking. This surgery is his best hope for recovery, and we want to do everything possible to get him back to the happy, active pup he was before.
The cost of this procedure is incredibly high. Catherine has pet insurance, but her plan only covers a percentage of the surgery and post-op care. This is an overwhelming expense, especially as a dedicated public school teacher facing possible job loss next year due to budget cuts.
Catherine has given so much to her students and community—now we’re hoping to give back to her and Rico in this time of need. If you are able to donate or share this link, it would mean so much to us. Any amount helps and is deeply appreciated.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your kindness and support. Let’s give Rico the chance to keep fetching and enjoying life to the fullest!
With gratitude,
