Conservation Beyond Borders field teams de-horn the rhinos to save lives!

Dr. Nicole Benjamin-Fink is removing the incentive for poachers to kill rhinos, by savely removing the horn.

There is no blood flow or nerve endings within the horn, therefore it is not a painful process for the rhino.

Rhinos are driven to the brink of extinction due to the poaching crisis, driven by the increasing demand for their horn, considered a high value commodity in the illegal wildlife trade. It takes 48 hours for a rhino horn to reach its black market in Asia. It can take 48 hours for the rhino to bleed out after it is brutally shot by poachers. In 2023, 499 rhinos were poached in South Africa. This means that one rhino is poached every 17 hours. At this rate, the world will lose all of its rhinos within our lifetime.

Conservation Beyond Borders (CBB) is an international nonprofit organization that aims to save the world's most iconic species. By removing the incentive to poach, promoting relevant legislation, and providing veterinary aid, CBB is able to save rhinos.

What does CBB need?

CBB has identified two critical rhino populations situated in a geographical area in which 62% of poaching occurred in 2023. 50 of them must be saved! By safely removing the horn, CBB's teams remove the incentive to kill, thereby saving rhinos.

The cost to save a dehorn and relocate a single rhino is $5,000 (a painless procedure, similar to clipping fingernails). The entire operation includes veterinarian, tranquilizers, helicopters, and rangers.

Each donation is critical to reach CBB's goal of saving 50 rhinos.
