Save Rescue Animals in Dire Need of Help!

I've always liked animals, and as soon as I moved to a house, I adopted two cats. Last November, a friend of mine posted a moving, short video of a sweet stray dog named Tate who was on death row at the local animal shelter. I rushed down to meet Tate and adopted him on the spot. He could not be released to me without being neutered though, so I left him there thinking I would pick him up in a day or two after the operation.

Unbeknownst to me, prior to the surgery the shelter fed Tate, a big no-no, and never treated him for parasites, in spite of being there for more than 5 months. Tate died on the recovery table. He choked on the food he was not supposed to be given, and his immune system was so compromised for lack of treatment, he couldn't withstand the surgery. I was devastated....and angry. Shortly after, I fostered and subsequently adopted Artie, a mutt also on their kill list and listed as a dangerous animal. He's been with me for a year, and the only danger he represents is if you are allergic to his wet kisses. I have since taken in a foster, Lily, an abused pit bull, who was used for breeding and discarded. It moves me to my core to see the love this sweet girl gives me and to everyone she meets, in spite of all the abuse she has been through.

I knew I had to do more, but I couldn't keep taking in fosters. As my husband likes to joke, "My wife wanted a cat and I didn't, so we compromised and now have two cats and two dogs!" I started a petition to Make Florida a No Kill State (www.change.org/MakeFLnoKill), and I wanted to find a way to help all the small, understaffed and underfunded rescues in the area that are doing their best to save these poor cats and dogs on a shoestring budget. That's when I came up with the idea of a Yoga for Rescues program; yoga classes held for the benefit of animals in need. We can provide yoga classes (led by certified instructors) on a regular basis or as one-off events. These classes can be offered at corporations wanting to extend a great perk to their employees. It can be offered at shared work spaces for much less than at a yoga studio, and a much more convenient location. We can work with property management, gyms, hospitals, buildings, cruises, hotels, shared work spaces, you name it!  And we can offer it anywhere in the country through our network of certified instructors.    We also take donations which get distributed to various 501c3 animal rescues.

My dream is to buy 10 acres of land in different locations around the country where the dogs could run freely, have covered areas and regular vet visits, and people can come and adopt them in their natural happy state; not scared or angry at being locked in a kennel all day just waiting for their death sentence. Cats would have their own area and any special needs animals would be given the care they require in a healthy, loving environment. For now that's just a dream--- but the immediate needs of these animals are very real. Please consider donating here to help them out or use our yoga services for the wellness of your employees, your guests, your tenants, your friends or yourself, where a large portion of what we make goes to helping these forgotten babies.

Thank you.
