The Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal rejected the developers' appeal. Ryman cannot build 14 apartment blocks on the treed site.
It's been a 4 year campaign, with well over a THOUSAND people helping in so many ways! Over 1000 people objected to council when the plans were advertised, and countless other helped handing out flyers, sewing face masks, dancing in Koala suits, writing to council, writing to the planning minister, donating to the fund where $50,000 was raised to pay for our barrister, our astonishingly generous pro-bono solicitor who gave us countless ours of research, found and worked so effectively with our VCAT Barrister, and represented us for over 2 weeks at VCAT for nothing but his love of this community and the creatures we share it with.
Others giving us their professional expertise as expert witnesses, writing countless social media comments and posts, printing flyers, communicating with supporters, wasting time with 6 trolls before realising there were only 6 trolls but over 1000 supporters, countless conversations gaining knowledge from amazingly knowledgable people about planning law, local history, local heritage, Bunerong heritage, local geology, flora and fauna, planning law, child safety, traffic law, storm water law, counting pedestrians, photographing erosion from storm water, pulling together a team of amazingly talented and experienced locals to speak at VCAT, hanging green ribbons from letter boxes, coming to our community photo shoot, printing banners, donating artworks for auction, photographing traffic, the site and the community protests, writing press releases, doing radio and TV interviews, constantly encouraging and guiding each other.
SO MANY people helped in so many ways and we are so grateful to every one of them. We have had the opportunity to work with fantastic people and see our community unite behind a common purpose.
Rymans plans are dead. They can start again with new plans that are much smaller and appropriate to the site, but they cannot build 14 multi-storey apartment blocks on this land!!!
