Quest Needs Our Help ❤️
Meet Quest—our 2-year-old Great Pyrenees and beloved guardian of Funky Chicken Rescue. Gentle, loyal, and deeply devoted, Quest watches over our rescued animals every single day. Rain or shine, day or night, he’s always on duty—keeping everyone safe.
But now, Quest needs us.
Over the past two months, Quest developed unexplained and worsening swelling in his abdomen and penis. We’ve seen three vets—including our farm vet, a small animal vet, and specialists at UC Davis—and tried multiple medications. Nothing has worked.
Last week, Quest stopped eating. That’s when we knew things were getting serious.
Today, UC Davis performed a full diagnostic workup: blood tests, an ultrasound, X-rays, and fluid aspiration. The good news? There were no tumors, no signs of cancer, and no visible damage to his chest or lungs.
The current suspicion is a foxtail embedded in his abdomen—a dangerous and hard-to-detect problem that may only be confirmed through a CT scan. If found, surgery will be needed to remove it.
The estimate for this next phase is $10,000.
We are a small nonprofit sanctuary caring for over 300 rescued animals, and this kind of expense is a huge financial strain. But Quest is worth every penny. He has been through so much already—he lost his tail to an injury as a puppy, and now this—but he’s never stopped being the calm, protective presence we all rely on.
Please help us get him the care he desperately needs. Whether it’s through a donation, sharing his story, or simply sending your love—we are grateful for every bit of support.
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you.
