Hi everyone (family, friends, dog lovers, and more).
My boyfriend and I are seeking immediate assistance with our puppy, Rico. We adopted him on the 9th from Devore animal shelter as he was going to be euthanized that day.
The shelter did tell us he had an upper respiratory infection which we were prepared, willing, and able to treat with the help of our vet.
The day after we brought him home he was showing signs that he was clearly more sick than what we were told.
The following day he was stable and took a turn for the worst after 6pm on Wednesday - prompting me to move his Friday exam to Thursday morning first thing as a “sick pet” exam.
After bloodwork and fecal tests, we did a “SNAP” test before leaving and found that he did test positive for PARVO. This can be fatal for dogs and often requires hospitalization. We nearly broke down, but tried to gather ourselves to plan the next steps.
We had a 40 minute drive back from Glendale which was spent calling every local animal hospital under the sun. We went to VCA West LA on Sepulveda - on the phone were told a ballpark of 1200-2000 each day of staying in house for treatment and then AFTER the exam and a conversation with the vet, they gave us an estimate for roughly 7000 a day. Something we simply could not do.
I am saddened to have to ask, but if anyone has any resources they could share or even donate - we are very much in need. We jumped from clinic to clinic all day yesterday totaling over 700 for visits alone with no treatment options available in our price range aside from supportive care at home with fluids and medications.
So much can change in a day - if you check my instagram post, the last video was him Wednesday during the day before he got drastically worse that evening.
We just want this boy to feel better and survive so he can truly feel what it’s like to be part of a loving family - we are expecting a son in June!
He is only 5 or 6 months old & deserves at least that.
I do have my Venmo linked on my page, but the username is @CMHZG
If you are unable to donate or don’t know any resources, please share this if you can.
We are sick to our stomachs with aching hearts & just want to save our boy.
Thank you.
My DMs will be open on IG.
