Save Prim: Urgent Heartworm Treatment

***SCROLL DOWN FOR UPDATES***
Meet Prim Rose. She is my best friend, my everything! I rescued her from the Animal Humane Society a year ago, shortly after she arrived in MN from Alabama. The reality is that Prim rescued me too! I suffer from anxiety and depression, and Prim brings peace to my world.
Today, Prim was diagnosed with heartworm. This is a serious condition that affects a dog's heart, lungs, and other organs. It is deadly if not treated. The treatment estimate is between $2500 and $3000 and cannot begin until I have at least half the money to pay the vet. Prim tested negative prior to arriving at the Humane Society, but I am told it can take months for heartworm to show up.
Please help me raise the money to save my girl. I need to raise $3000 as soon as possible to get her started. Thank you in advance for your help and prayers.
***UPDATES***
9/17/2024: Prim had a Vet appt on 9/11/2024, they retested her Heartworm (confirming she has it) and that came back positive. As of 9/12/2024 she has started a 28 day round of antibiotics (Doxycycline) and a 28 day round of steroids (Prednisone) to start off her treatment. She is to remain on a low energy life style until the treatment is finished but she is doing good right now! I will be checking in with the vet towards the end of her med cycle and see what the next steps are! Thank you to all who have donated and shared! I appreciate all of you!
10/7/2024: Prim has a Vet appointment on Monday (10/21/2024) to get her regular yearly vaccines. Her last day for meds is on Friday (10/11/2024). She will need to take a Heart-worm preventative shortly after and prior to her appointment. At this appointment I will be setting up her injection appointments! So far she is still doing good and acting like herself! I thank you all for donating and sharing! It means the world to me!
10/21/2024: Prim was seen today for her yearly vaccines! She did amazing! I have set up her first Injection appointment, which will be on Thursday November 14th. I was given a dose of Trazodone and Gabapentin to give 2 hours prior to drop-off, which is at 8am. She will be there until around 5-6pm so they can monitor for any reactions to the injection! I will provide another update on injection day! Thanks again for everyone who has shared and donated!
11/14/2024: Prim had her first Heartworm injection today and she is doing very well! She was given trazodone and gabapentin at 6am today (2 hours before her appointment) and was dropped off at 8am today! I just picked her up from her appointment at 4pm! She is very sleepy but the vet said she did amazing and is well loved at the VCA! They have given me a supply of trazodone to keep her mello and calm as she is on a VERY strict excercise restriction! They also gave her another round of prednisone! Her next injection appointment will be on December 16th and December 17th. These are the final injections and will be getting them back to back (one on each day). Thank you so much for everyone’s help and support! I really appreciate it! Please keep donating and sharing if you can!
12/16/2024: Prim had her 2nd Heart worm injection this morning! She is doing amazing! She’s starting her third round of Prednisone tonight! She gets her 3rd and final injection tomorrow (12/17/2024). Prim is still to remain on a low energy life style for at least a month after her final injection! She has been doing great! As we finally get to the end of her treatment, I just want to thank everyone for all your help! It truly means a lot! As of now I have everything paid for but will still be looking for donations so I can pay off my care credit card that was used to help pay! Thanks again!
12/17/2024: Prim had her 3rd and final injection today. She was dropped off early this morning and picked up around the same time! She’s in a little pain today which is to be expected but otherwise she is doing great! She starts her final round of Prednisone today and will need to remain calm for 30 days until she can be rechecked for heartworm! Thank you all for the donations!
12/21/24: Today Prim was rushed to an emergency vet to be seen due to blood in her urine. The Vet said this was not related to her heartworm and it most likely a UTI that could be due to her prednisone that she has been taking. Prednisone is known to increase thirst and urination! They sent us home with an 10 day antibiotic and she has been fine ever since! This was quite a scare but I’m glad she is okay!
1/17/2025: Prim had her heartworm recheck appointment yesterday (1/16/2025). Today I recieved a call from the vet, her heartworm test came back negative! Prim is heartworm FREE! I would just like to thank you all for the donations and the help! It truly meant the world to me to have people in my corner during these hard times!
