My name is Amanda and myself and my partner Brandon are asking for donations to help successfully bail a senior horse who we- and many people we know- know and love out of the auction pipeline.

Pompeii is a coming 25yo Warmblood gelding who has very unfortunately found his way into the pipeline following his previous owner losing her farm.

Pompeii is a horse that has truly given his whole life to his people- he had a proven and extensive show career throughout his younger years and went on to be a well-loved lesson horse until his early 20’s. When it became difficult to keep him sound on a steady work load, Pompeii was given to another farm upstate where he would step down to be a therapy and trail horse until now; at the ripe age of 25 where he has now found himself in danger sitting and waiting to be bid on at Unadilla Livestock Auction in New York.

As many know, public horse auctions are directly linked to the slaughter pipeline, with aged and physically-limited horses being highest-risk at these sales. Older and unsound horses are most commonly sold to kill buyers, and shipped over the boarder for meat. Unfortunately for poor Pompeii, he fits the bill for a kill buyer perfectly and is currently at high-risk and in danger.

Brandon and I have done a ton of auction/kill pen pulls in the past, but nothing hits home like seeing a horse you grew up with end up in this situation.

Brandon and myself will be proxy bidding through the phone in attempt to get Pompeii out of the auction stable safely and into safe hands where he will be quarantined, monitored, tended to, and vetted throughly upon arrival to us.

We are asking for your help. Pompeii deserves peace, comfort, and care in his senior years after a life of serving humans- not uncertainty, suffering, and neglect.
