Save Pleasure House Point Natural Area

Hello Everyone of you who wishing to see the natural coastal wetlands of the Lynnhaven/Pleasure House Point Natural Area Preserved in FULL with no further invasion and damage. 12 acres of heavily Maritime Forested area within the interior of the 100 acres of preservation is under assault with the city proclaiming that it must obtain wetland credits from it by "restoring" the site and improving its function. The city has been made aware that they can buy all the credits they need from the New Mill Creek bank that are pre-approved by USACE, can be purchased right now in advance of any projects and are fully transferable/usable within the Lynnhaven 00208108 code for any flood projects needed. THE CITY HAS REFUSED. They have continued on plan to destroy this interior site with full demolition clear-cutting of 8 acres of wildlife habitat forest, the destruction of non-tidal/tidal wetlands on entry and the excavation/grading by bulldozers across the entire 12 acres. This will reduce the site to a dirt field plain that will be inundated with tidal waters after. The devastation to this wildlife habitat and all surrounding wetlands area will be MASSIVE- killing all wildlife and birds within, opening us up to storm flood risks, contaminant storm water runoffs into the open waters and wiping out oyster beds along the shoreline. Within months it’s also predicted that the exterior berm walking path will collapse inward because of erosion, tidal force and storm events and there will be no more walking trails as the site will become covered in open water. Sea level resistance, flood barrier protection, uncontrolled contaminant run-off and the entire natural wildlife habitat--gone. And for what? A few credits the city could have already bought for use?

PLEASE consider giving TODAY anything, even $5, to support the defense and protection of this natural park wetlands and wildlife habitat. These funds will be used 100% for the defense of the Pleasure House Point Natural Wetlands and Wildlife Preserve. (The account will be overseen by 3 individuals to insure security/use of funds and will have reports generated for all to see where used)

This doesn’t have to happen to the natural park that everyone loves and fought so hard to keep. Email the city, Email Chesapeake Bay Foundation, Email everyone and tell them what you think. Stop taking and destroying the things we love about our city and do the right thing. Stay out of this natural preserved site area and buy your flood project impact wetland credits that are available and usable immediately.
