Save Pickles: Jules' Beloved Cat in Crisis

Hi! My name is Aimee. I run a rescue in Metro Atlanta, and Jules adopted one of her cats, Pita, from me. But now Pickles, Pita's brother, needs our help.

Pickles was rescued from a trash bag tossed in a dumpster when he was just a tiny baby. He needed a lot of hands-on help and treatments to survive, but he couldn't have found a more perfect and dedicated rescuer.

Jules Miller is an absolutely incredible human being. She is a licensed vet tech and runs a successful pet sitting/walking/care-giving business. She cares so deeply about everyone in her life—two and four-legged—and now it's our turn to help her.

Pickles was hospitalized on 2.27.2025 with a urinary blockage. This can absolutely be fatal. Once male cats have one blockage, they are prone to more in the future. The ultrasound didn't find any stones or crystals, but one of our friends recently had a very similar occurrence, so we know it will likely happen again.

A permanent solution for Pickles would be what's called a PU surgery: A perineal urethrostomy (sometimes referred to as a PU) is a surgical procedure that is most commonly performed on male cats with a urinary obstruction. A perineal urethrostomy creates a new urinary opening that decreases the length of the urethra and allows urine to bypass this narrowed region.
