Dear friends, family, and fellow cat lovers —

Alycia and I are reaching out to ask for your help in saving our sweet cat, Pepper. She’s a 1.5-year-old Devon Rex who joined our family in January—and while she’s already stolen our hearts, she’s also been through more than any cat should.

Before coming to us, Pepper was bred at just 9 months old. She ended up needing an emergency spay due to complications during delivery, including a retained kitten. We were told she had recovered, nursed her kittens, and was ready for a new home—but it quickly became clear that wasn’t the full story.

Almost immediately, we noticed something was off. Pepper was underweight, severely anemic, and clearly unwell. Our local vet ran tests but couldn’t get to the root of her condition. We were referred to the surgical team at Angell Animal Medical Center in Boston, where doctors now believe Pepper may have retained tissue or a foreign object from her previous surgery that’s causing a chronic infection.

Since January, we’ve already spent thousands of dollars trying to get answers—between diagnostics, specialist visits, medications, and follow-ups. We’ve done everything we can to support her recovery, but this next step—surgery and post-op care—is more than we can manage alone.

Without treatment, her prognosis is poor. But with surgery, she has a real chance at a healthy, happy life—and we are committed to giving her just that.
