Save Penguin Paradise’s Pool!

I hate to have to resort to this, but my present circumstances have left me with no other option. I thank you in advance for reading this and whatever amount you’re able to donate, no matter how large or how small is greatly appreciated more than you know.

A little background on me: I used to be a gainfully employed professional in the automotive industry. All that changed for me when suddenly when I suffered multiple strokes for no reason the doctors could figure out. With serious health issues comes serious medical bills, both initially and reoccurring each month. With the regular bills that come with maintaining a household plus the medical bills, I am barely above water.

As a result of the strokes, I am now permanently disabled and therefore unable to return to my previous profession or acquire a new one. I have been living on an extremely fixed income since 2018 and the last means that I had to supplement my income in the rideshare industry was taken from me due to COVID-19.

After I had the strokes, I had a pool put into help not only with recreation but mainly for my rehabilitation. I can no longer use it for its intended purpose because the pool’s liner is ripping due to both the extreme temps and  it’s age. If this continues to go unresolved, it can lead to structural problems causing the walls to cave in. If the liner rips just six more inches, it can cause issues with the underground plumbing, which would be really extensive repairs due having to break the concrete, etc. Given my present financial circumstances, I’m sure you understand why I can’t let this go any longer and why I need to avoid this from getting to be any more costly than it already is.

When I purchased the pool, of course I was aware of the need for maintenance down the road, hence why I purchased insurance for this pool. I tried to file a claim for the repairs, and I was denied as the insurance company classified this as “wear and tear” and refused to cover any of the cost at all. I feel like I have wasted all that money for so many years just to not be able to get the help I need when I need it most. I have tried to self repair using products like “Flex Seal” but that is woefully inadequate for the level of repair that my pool requires.

With that being said, today I’m reaching out to my community for help. I have been active in the past within my community (District 2) with various activities, such as cleaning our bike trails and planting trees at Grant High School. I have also volunteered for weeks at the Front Street Shelter helping kitties and bunnies. I have raised over $10,000 for the American Cancer Society. I’ve advocated for patients’ rights and I’ve hosted fundraisers for friends in need. I didn’t do any of these things for bragging rights or to entitle me to anything in return. I just say that to say that I’ve been there a lot for my community when I could be and I’m hoping and would be grateful if my community could return the favor in my time of need.

Thank you so much for reading this and again, any help you could give would be forever appreciated. I fully intend to keep you all updated of my pool’s progress just to show that the donations you give are going to the cause they were meant for.

Together we can Save Penguin Paradise!
