Help Save Our Brave Little Puppy, Pecan
Hello, we are Michelle and Josh. Recently, I (Michelle) started volunteering at our local shelter to mend my heart after losing our beloved soul dog, Peanut, who was with us for 16 perfect years. Almost two months ago, we said goodbye to Peanut, and the loss left a huge void in my life and completely devastated us. I became a shell of myself, feeling like I no longer had a purpose until I met these little puppies. I felt they were a gift sent to me by Peanut to help me become the person he knew.
While volunteering, I was bathing puppies when a little boy was brought in who looked just like our Peanut. It was love at first sight, and I knew we would adopt him even though I didn't go to the shelter to find a dog this family found us. Originally, we planned to foster his sisters and their mom, but we quickly fell in love with this family and decided to adopt his sisters as well. We named the boy Cashew, and his sisters are Willow and Pecan.
Though Cashew and Willow have tested negative for parvo, we are continuing to monitor them for any changes to their health. On Friday morning, we informed the shelter that all three puppies, who are only a month old, had found their forever home. However, around 3 pm that day, Pecan threw up. Since they were being dewormed, we initially thought it was related to that.
Over the weekend, Pecan started sleeping more and, by Sunday, she was vomiting again and losing weight rapidly. We rushed her to the emergency hospital in Oklahoma City (OKC), where she was diagnosed with parvovirus, a serious and potentially deadly disease. Our brave little Pecan is now hospitalized and receiving intensive treatment, including parvovirus monoclonal antibodies and a plasma transfusion. She is currently in critical condition, but the doctor mentioned she is not the worst case she has treated, so we are hopeful but still scared.
We have already paid $2,000 to start her treatment, but the costs are mounting. Pecan’s treatment is expected to cost around $4,700. We are reaching out to our community for help to cover her medical bills and to be prepared in case anything happens to Cashew or Willow. Any funds raised that are not needed for their treatment will be refunded to the donors. Our goal is simply to save this tiny, 4-pound, 5-ounce, 4-week-old puppy who has had such a rough start in life, so she can grow up to be spoiled and loved for the rest of her days.
Having just lost our soul dog, we are terrified of losing this baby who we hoped would help mend our broken hearts. We wouldn’t ask for help, but our finances are currently a little behind after recently spending our savings trying to save Peanut’s life.
Your support means the world to us and to our little fighter, Pecan. Thank you for helping us give her the chance to live a happy, healthy life.
