Save Pebble Beach! Help protect a Chicago natural treasure

Save our Shoal! We are seeking contributions for legal fees and alternative engineering solutions in our effort to protect Pebble Beach and the surrounding wilds.

If you have spent time at the Chicago lakefront between 51st and 45th Streets, you already know what a beautiful, singular space it is. If you have yet to discover it, you’re in for a treat! The unique underwater geology and dynamics of Morgan (also known as Mishigami) Shoal have sculpted a southside Chicago treasure studded with glorious pebbles and massive stone, cradled by prairies of birdsong – a haven for wildlife and space for natural recreation and reflection unlike any other in the city. Etched with countless fossils and hundreds of limestone carvings, it is historically imprinted with the ways creatures have used and enjoyed it for millennia.

We seek to protect this extraordinary space for millennia more! The Shoal’s shoreline is public parkland, and one of the two last reaches (along with nearby Promontory Point) to be “undertaken” by the City and related entities in the name of storm damage reduction. The Advocates for Morgan Shoal is a community-centered group that has been working to bring awareness of this historical biodiverse shoreline with a goal of ensuring that ideas and vision of community members are included in the reconstruction plan for Morgan (Mishigami) Shoal. We have retained a lawyer and are working with alternative engineering firms and need your support.

Our starting goal is $10,000.
