Patisserie Manuel is a Latina-owned small business founded in December of 2013, by Chef Claudia Olea and her family. However the history of how it came to be extends further back with years of dreaming, laboring and planning. (visit www.patisseriemanuel.com/our-story for more info) For 7 years since it’s opening, Chef Claudia and her team have worked diligently and passionately to provide their customers with quality cakes and pastries for all of life’s special moments. And until recently, Chef Claudia also offered fun baking courses to take alone or in groups where she shared her love for baking and her delicious, top-secret macaron recipe!
Last year they were presented with the opportunity to open at Westfield Montgomery Mall and believed it to be a tremendous blessing for their small business. So they packed up all of their things, opened up their kitchen in Silver Spring and along with it, their Westfield Montgomery location last December of 2019.
As with most small businesses in the area, the covid19 pandemic has been extremely difficult and forced them to close their newly opened store prematurely. They have worked tirelessly to keep their business running through their kitchen in Silver Spring with online orders for pick up and delivery (special shout out to loyal customers that sought them out and ordered). However, along with not receiving any government help and the fact that they’ve still been charged rent at Montgomery mall during these four months, it is simply not enough to cover the cost of employees, rent for both locations, new debt due to this pandemic and other business expenses. It’s impossible to do alone and they need our help!
As someone who has lived in Montgomery County all of her life and has witnessed first-hand all of the literal blood, sweat and tears it has taken for this dream to come alive and be maintained, I am asking that we take care of our own and help this small business survive.
If you’ve been blessed by them and their work, please consider donating and sharing. The amount to be raised is a lot, I know that. I see that. But unfortunately, this is what owning a business in MoCo is like and I refuse to stand by while a business that I love and a family that I love, loses everything they’ve invested so much of themselves into. Patisserie Manuel es una pequeña empresa familiar y su propietaria es Latina, fue fundada en Diciembre del 2013 por Chef Claudia Olea y su familia. Sin embargo, la historia de cómo surgió viene desde muchos años de haber soñado, trabajado y planificado. El año pasado se les presentó la oportunidad de abrir en una tienda en Westfield Montgomery Mall, creyendo que era una gran bendición para su pequeña empresa. Así que empacaron todas sus cosas, se movieron a una nueva cocina industrial en Silver Spring y, junto con ella, su nueva tienda ubicada en Westfield Montgomery en Diciembre del 2019.
Al igual que otras pequeñas empresas del área, la pandemia de covid19 ha sido extremadamente difícil y los ha obligado a cerrar su tienda prematuramente. Han trabajado incansablemente para mantener su negocio funcionando desde su cocina en Silver Spring con pedidos en línea para recoger y entregar (les damos las gracias a los clientes leales que los buscaron y ordenaron).
