Parachute House is Milwaukee County’s only peer-run respite—a voluntary, short-term, residential alternative to hospitalization, incarceration, or emergency services for people experiencing mental health or substance use crises. Everyone here has lived experience, so guests are met with understanding, not judgment.
Since opening in 2019, we’ve supported thousands of guest through respite stays and warmline support calls. The need is constant—and growing. Peer-run respite saves lives and reduces costly emergency room visits, hospitalizations, and police involvement.
In June 2025, our primary state funding—about $438,500 was previously included in Governor Evers Wisconsin budget until the finance committee shut his recommendation down. Since then, we’ve been fighting to keep our doors open.
The impact is real. Just recently when asked what they would have done without Parachute House:
- 26 people said they would have self-harmed
- 16 said they would have attempted suicide
- 38 said they would have relapsed
Our Warmline has supported nearly 6,000 calls a year. Our Warmline is more than a phone call—it’s a lifeline. It provides compassionate, peer-led conversations for people who need to be heard, understood, and supported in real time. We help callers navigate resources, explore options, and feel less alone in moments that can otherwise feel overwhelming. And we don’t disappear once the call ends. We provide follow-up wellness checks to make sure people stay supported, connected, and safe. This ongoing care is what turns a single moment of relief into lasting stability—and it saves lives.
We’ve secured $100,000 so far, but to operate through 2027, we must raise at least that much more.
If Parachute House closes, Milwaukee loses a life-saving resource—and people lose a place to land.
Please stand with us so Parachute House doesn’t disappear.
