Hi, my name is Roberta. And I live in Australia. But my home is Porto Alegre, in Brazil.

My home state is over 80% underwater. 450 cities are flooded. 1.4 million people were affected. Hundreds of thousands lost their homes. So many dead. This is an unprecedented flood in the history of Brazil.

I feel completely lost on how to help from far away. And so many asked if they could help with donations.

My sister and best friends are working around the clock, daily hiring trucks, aeroplanes and helicopters to get essential supplies like:

* Water (the state has had their water cut out for 30 days, and we ran out of water)

* Food (we have over 1.4 million people needing to be fed, and the state is entirely out of food)

* Medication (the river is contaminated, and we need medicine for leptospirosis, which is a disease caused by rat urine)

* Petrol for boats to rescue hundreds of thousands of people found on roofs and hanging on to trees.

This is just the beginning. Only to save the lives NOW. With over 80% of the state wholly devastated, we will need help for a long time.

But now, I would like to see Australians being able to help directly to volunteers doing their best to save lives. I will send money directly to my sister and friends who are non-stop, daily, tirelessly on the ground working to help. They are not sleeping, showering, or eating properly so they can spend their days at the rescue or donation centres, saving lives. And they need money to buy all the above.
