Save Our Superman Steve

#SaveOurSuperman

On February 12th, 2018 — my older brother’s birthday— my dad was admitted for emergency surgery to remove a brain tumor.

What Happened

A few days earlier, I got the phone call from my mom that my dad was having trouble speaking and was rushed to the ER for what we all thought was a stroke.

Instead, right there in the emergency room, we got the soul-crushing news that my father was diagnosed with an aggressive form of brain cancer- glioblastoma- and needed the tumor removed along with intensive treatment.

The Story of Steve

For those who know my dad, they would agree that he’s a strong, dedicated and loyal person, who’s always worked hard to be there for his family.  During his minor league baseball days, my father was likened to Superman, with his strong caring demeanor, one hell of an arm, and looks reminiscent of a young Christopher Reeves.

When I was a kid, I used to tell people my older brother was Superman, because I really thought he was! He was handsome, and the absolute best brother to all of us.” - Marni, my dad’s youngest sibling.

Seeing him vulnerable, and unable to provide for his family is the hardest thing to witness. We need to rally around him now, to fend off this would-be ‘kryptonite.’

This has been making it extremely difficult for my mom—now supporting them both trying to pay bills and the mortgage on their house—to get to work and get my dad to all his doctor’s appointments.

What You Can Do

As if the intensive treatment (surgery, radiation, chemo, infusions) my father is currently undergoing isn’t painful enough; leaving him weak, tired and unable to do the things he wants to do; the burden of medical bills, medication, treatment and supporting the family is being left to my mom, who is her own Superwoman.

As a family we’re taking whatever steps are necessary to help my dad. Many of the options that may help are recommended by doctors yet not covered by insurance.  CBD oil which is known to shrink tumors and ease pain, and Nutritional Oncology, to name a few. We are trying to explore these options, but desperately need your help to support us in order to do so.

Without a car, and facing all these emotional and physical struggles on her own, my mom is working tirelessly to save their house , save my dad and keep their lives running, all while being as positive as she can for my father.

By getting to our goal as soon as possible (think: before September hits) my parents may be able to at least remain in the comfort of their own house and cover some of the cost of medical needs while my dad fights cancer. The thought of losing their home, packing and having to move in a hurry is too much to bear right now, while trying to focus on fighting cancer.

NO DONATION IS TOO SMALL (or too soon)!!

By donating, you can help lift the burden and ease the pain we are all going through. This is a long and hard journey, and we cannot go through it alone. Please share this link and add the hashtag #SaveOurSuperman to your post to help do your part to get the word out!
