Save Our Songlines - help us fight for culture

Murujuga is home to priceless cultural heritage

Murujuga (the Burrup Peninsula, Western Australia), is a place of worship. Our rock art tells our stories; it is our Bible. We practise and continue to follow our cultural protocols, passing down knowledge of Lore and culture. As custodians we are entrusted to carry on our traditional customs.

Industry is destroying ancient Songlines

Murujuga is also home to the Burrup Hub, Australia’s biggest fossil fuel project, which directly threatens our sacred rock art.

Chemical emissions from industry are degrading our rock art.

The company Perdaman plan to relocate three of our rock art sites to make way for a fertiliser plant.

The Murujuga landscape is being degraded by expanding industrial facilities.

We are coming together to stop the destruction

Save Our Songlines is a community campaign against more industry on the Burrup.

So far, we have:
  • Organised the largest ever protest at Murujuga/the Burrup, where 100 community members came together to say no to more industry.
  • Addressed the United Nations in Geneva on threats to our heritage.
  • Released an open letter from 27 leaders and Elders in our community, asking for a pause on destructive industry until proper consent can be obtained.
  • Lodged ongoing emergency heritage protection applications with the Federal government.

We’ve achieved all of this as a team of volunteers relying largely on crowdfunding donations.

We’ll continue to fight for Country – with your help

We have forced the first ever full cultural heritage assessment of all industry on the Burrup under Section 10 of the Aboriginal Heritage Act. The next few months are crucial.

We need to keep the focus, pressure and attention of the whole world on the Burrup while the government considers whether to order protection of our sacred rock art sites and songlines.

We need to support Murujuga traditional custodians and the local community to engage fully with the Section 10 process and share their stories. We need to hold community meetings, we need to book event spaces, we need to help transport Elders and community members to share their experience and we need to record and produce video testimony for people who can’t get there in person.

We need your support to keep the story in the media, to keep exploring new legal avenues, and keep community pressure on the politicians!

Please donate your time, energy and any resources you have to help us protect this priceless living treasure - our Ngurra, our Country, our songlines.

Donate today to help us protect our past and our future.
