Do you want to keep your Village Shop?
Like most other community village shops, The Ropley Courtyard Community Village Shop is struggling. Overheads have increased, especially utilities, wages, waste collection, credit card charges etc. We do try to keep our prices down as much as possible, but we know that we cannot compete with supermarket prices. Since 2006, when the Shop first started trading, shopping habits have changed and in particular, after lockdown, (when the Shop proved to be invaluable to so many villagers). We know that most people now do their weekly shop online and use the Shop as a top up shop, or for the Post Office, for prescription and newspaper collections, for advertising local events and as a social meeting place and hub of the village, but that doesn’t pay the bills.
It is an established fact that the presence of a village shop adds 10% to the value of the average house – and in Ropley is worth in excess of £40,000 per property and even up to £200,000. We are asking those of you, who may not use the Shop, but nevertheless wish to keep the Shop, to contribute to its upkeep by completing a Standing Order form, available in the Shop – you can choose how much and how often you wish to contribute, or you can set up a Direct Debit , or you can simply make a donation, by cash, card or BACS or by going to this GoFundMe page..... It currently costs £50,000 a year to keep the Shop running. Please help us NOW to keep it running.
