Breaking Bread Community- a Project of SREHUP (Student-Run Emergency Housing Unit of Philadelphia) is a pet-friendly and low-barrier homeless shelters.
We offer shelter, case management, job training, legal aid, healthcare, and housing. We are also a food pantry for anyone in the community experiencing food insecurity.
After 15 years of operation, we are facing the threat of closure on July 1st. Delaware County, our main funder, has notified us that they are cutting our funding by 75%, which is not enough for us to keep our doors open.
This is tragic for the people and their pets who have come to depend on us, for our staff who have been with us for years, and for all of the students who are offered service learning through our shelter.
We have been more than a shelter; we have been a lifeline, a village, and a haven for people who are most vulnerable.
