Save Our Precious Yorkie’s Life After a Tragic Hit-And-Run

Donation protected
Hello, we are Nancy, Macy & Steven.

We’re reaching out in desperation because our world has been turned upside down. Our sweet, loving Yorkie Louie—who has brought endless joy and comfort to our lives—was the victim of a cruel hit-and-run. He was left broken and bleeding on the side of the road, helpless and terrified, while the driver sped away without a second thought.

Rushing him to the emergency vet, we were hit with devastating news: without immediate surgery and care, our little companion won’t survive. His tiny body has endured so much—broken bones, internal injuries—but his spirit is still fighting. And we refuse to give up on him.

The cost of saving his life is overwhelming: $50,000. This covers surgery (two surgeries already taken place and one coming up), ongoing treatment, and rehabilitation. We don’t have the means to cover this on our own, but this isn’t just a dog—it’s family. If you’ve ever loved a pet, you understand how their unconditional love lights up your life. Please help us Save Little Louie!

Here is his medical report: "Louie, a 6-year-old male intact Yorkshire Terrier dog presented to the Calgary Animal Referral and Emergency (CARE) Centre on November 19th, 2024 as a transfer for HBC. Client reports that he was hit by a car around 14:30. After the incident he screamed once and was unable to walk in his pelvic limbs. Client has not noticed any changes to his breathing. Initially his mentation seemed normal but after getting fentanyl at Paramount he was much more sedate. Prior to this, Louie had been doing well at home. There has been no vomiting, diarrhea, coughing, or sneezing. Louie no previous medical history.

Louie initially presented to Healthy Paws were he was found to be hypothermic, hypovolemic, and had marked abdominal bruising. At that time, he was still bearing weight on his pelvic limbs. They did a rectal exam and found decreased anal tone and palpated pelvic fractures. Initially his SpO, was 92% on room air but this improved to 100% with flow by oxygen. Louie had three view TXR/AXR which showed multiple fractures including a left sided pelvic fracture at the level of the acetabulum, left comminuted fibular fracture, right tuber coxae fracture, distal os penis fracture, and herniated small intestines. Only the left pelvic fracture was communicated with the client. Louie received methadone 0.2mg/kg IV and LRS 20ml/kg IV over 10 minutes and was transferred to Paramount.

At Paramount, Louie was found to have similar findings as above on physical exam with mild miosis, VPOCUS revealed scant abdominal effusion, volume depletion, possible right sided B-lines, and small intestinal herniation. His blood glucose was 6.4mmol/L. and his lactate was 3.6mmol/L. He received fentanyl 4mcg/kg IV, hypertonic saline 4ml/kg IV, and Isolyte 20ml/kg IV over 15 minutes. The VPOCUS findings were relayed to the client and he was transferred to CARE for CT scan and surgery."

Right now, time is running out. Every passing moment without treatment puts them closer to the unimaginable. We’re begging for your help to save him for his recovery and his third surgery. Every dollar makes a difference, and even if you can’t donate, sharing this campaign can bring us closer to the miracle we need.

Louie deserves a chance to run, play, and snuggle again. He deserves the life that this senseless act of cruelty tried to steal from him. Please, help us give him that chance.

Please help us reach the $50,000 needed to save his life. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for caring.
