We are about to lose a beloved piece of Bridgewater.
Bridgewater Residents United is reaching out to our community for urgent support.
A developer has proposed a massive commercial self-storage facility in our neighborhood. After months of board meetings, our final vote hearing before the Bridgewater Zoning Board of Adjustment has been set for September 22, 2026.
While we support smart, responsible development in town, inserting an industrial-scale storage operation adjacent to quiet residential homes undermines Bridgewater's Master Plan, increases commercial traffic, eliminates natural tree buffers, and threatens long-term property values.
Why We Are Raising Funds: We Need Professional Experts
Many residents ask: "Isn't showing up to the meeting and signing a petition enough?"
Under the New Jersey Municipal Land Use Law (MLUL), public opinion alone cannot legally stop a zoning variance. The applicant has brought high-priced land use attorneys, engineers, and planners to testify that their project fits the area.
To beat them on the legal record, we must fight expert with expert.
Every dollar raised through this campaign will go directly toward hiring licensed professionals to represent our community at the September 22 hearing and present technical testimony against the developer:
- Licensed Professional Planner (PP): To prove to the Board that the developer fails to meet the strict legal burden for a use variance (d(1) variance) and that the facility violates Bridgewater's Master Plan.
- Traffic Engineer: To challenge the applicant's traffic reports, highlighting safety risks for local streets, pedestrians, and school buses.
- Legal Representation / Land Use Attorney: To cross-examine the developer's witnesses on the record and ensure our community's rights are legally protected.

Our goal is to raise $10,000 to cover these critical professional fees:
Professional Planner Fee: ~$3,500 – $5,000
Traffic Impact Expert: ~$2,500 – $3,500
Legal Counsel & Document Preparation: ~$2,000 – $3,000
Note: All funds collected will be managed transparently by Bridgewater Residents United and used strictly for legal, engineering, planning, and community outreach expenses related to this zoning defense.
Any remaining funds following the final resolution will be donated to a local Bridgewater charity.
