I love the town of Lisbon and it’s time we help out one of our businesses that is trying to keep going during the pandemic. Tara Kieger, since the age of 8, knew that she wanted to open her own bakery. She graduated from Johnson and Wales University with a baker of pastry degree. Her dream came true on November, 2nd 2018 when she opened Sweet Cakes Bake Shop. The Sweet Cakes Bake Shop has been a wonderful addition to Lisbon.
Tara is known for helping the community with many events. Recently, she donated cookies for the lunch bags going out to our students in the community. Throughout the pandemic, she sold dry goods that community members couldn’t get in the stores. She has done countless fundraisers for activities and charities. She has donated pastry platters to local events.
Tara has said over and over again the warmth and support of the community is amazing. She is trying to hold onto her business, but balancing motherhood when schools were closed, and Covid restrictions, she can’t open five days a week. The shop is currently open two days a week.
Recently, on Father’s Day weekend, her fridge died losing $5,000 worth of supplies.
$5,000 may not be a lot of money to some businesses, but when her business was already closed for her regular hours, and now only open two days a week, it can make or break a business. Since March, she is only bringing in 25%-30% of what she was making last year. It doesn’t make sense to do a government loan at this point as she has to pay it back and is scared of what will happen to her bakery. Her insurance company denied the claim.
Could we come together as a community and raise $5,000 to help replace what she lost?
