Hi everyone,
I never imagined I’d be writing something like this, but we’re desperate for help.
A few days ago, we found out that our sweet little kitten Coni has a serious heart condition called PDA (Patent Ductus Arteriosus). It’s a congenital heart defect where a small blood vessel in the heart, which should close shortly after birth, stays open. This causes abnormal blood flow and puts a lot of strain on the heart. If left untreated, it can lead to heart failure… and ultimately, it means he won’t survive.
We took him to the vet because we noticed something wasn’t quite right. That’s when they found a significant heart murmur. The vet told us we need to act fast – without surgery, the only humane option will be euthanasia.
Before we can even consider surgery, he needs a specialized echocardiogram from a veterinary cardiologist. It’s a non-invasive heart ultrasound that will help the specialists fully understand the structure and function of his heart and confirm the diagnosis. This alone costs around $1,000.
He’ll need surgery performed by a cardiac specialist – likely at a veterinary teaching hospital or university. The cost is somewhere between $6,000–$10,000, not including travel, medications, and post-op care.
He’s just a baby. He’s still playful, still curious, still full of life — and it breaks our hearts knowing that without this surgery, we may lose him before he even gets a chance.
We’re doing everything we can, but this kind of expense is something we simply can’t manage alone. That’s why we’re turning to the kindness of others.
If you’re able to donate even a little bit, it will go directly to his care: the echo, the specialist consults, and hopefully the life-saving surgery. And if you can’t donate, just sharing this means the world to us.
Thank you for reading, for caring, and for giving our little guy a chance at life.
