Save our home and stop homelessness

Donation protected
Hello, my name is Devon and I am a father of two.

I have never been one to ask for help, much less from strangers but we have found ourselves in a difficult situation.

In March of 2021, we finally bought a home, it was our first home even if nothing special about it. For 2 years we'd drive twice, sometimes more weekly to visit my spouse's grandmother who had rapidly declining health, such as memory loss, diabetes, and congestive heart failure, we'd assist her with whatever she needed.

It came to the point that the visits were not enough, and she'd often talk about how lonely she felt, and she was not sure what to do about the house as she was often behind on bills due to simply forgetting to pay them and the interest would start to pile up on bills.

Towards the end of June of 2023, my family chose to move in with her and be her 24/7 aide and take over payments to ensure she could live the rest of her life in peace. This choice would require me forfeiting the loan to the house we had just bought and destroying my credit, but to ensure a woman that took care of all of us, including me in the short 11 years I've known her, it was hardly a difficult choice to make. We were going to have a formal contract written that would continue this plan till she passed away, inherit the deed and continue the payments on the house, to both ensure my family would not be homeless, but also to keep the house itself within the family, as it has a lot of memories and important purpose to my spouse' family.

On August 3rd, 2023, she was released from the hospital, however unknowing to my spouse and myself, the grandmother's two sons immediately took her to an assisted living, and as they both hold PoA granted to them by the passing of the grandfather, deemed her not sound of mind.

We spoke with one of the uncles, and they plan to short-sell the house to help pay for the assisted living, as it is 3200 a month, which we understand completely.

This is where the GoFundme comes into place. We not only still want to buy the house to keep it within the family, as it has been for over forty years now, but we need to. I no longer have a credit score to pull for another loan, and all of our savings went into moving here and funding to fix a lot of things within the home.

My parents have offered to co-sign the lease for the house. Between a co-sign and the help of this Gofundme, we'll be able to keep the grandmother's house within the family, with the sale of the house, pay for all of her assisted living, and I will be able to ensure my spouse, two kids (8 and 10) do not go homeless.

Update: We have been approved for the loan with the co-signee from my parents. We are just "Cash broke" as he put it and working towards just this goal.

Thank you everyone so far that has donated, it's been amazing seeing so many people assist us and I won't forget any of you.
