SAVE OUR FARM: United African Farm is washed-off.

Donation protected
The United African Farm (UAF) is a community-led food and farm initiative founded in 2019. The United African Farm is run by volunteer members of African descent with the aim of bridging the intergenerational and intercultural gaps within our community through farming, food and a sense of community. The initiative rapidly grew to a movement that has now brought together over 80 families from 12 different African countries' backgrounds, individuals of multiple languages, distinct and tribes cultures together.
Our vision for the UAF in 2022-23 and beyond includes growing the movement through community-based activities such as bi-annual harvest festivals, community events, farm tours, school excursions, multicultural youth programs, women’s groups, farmgate sales, and the establishment of a culturally responsive food hub.
Under challenging circumstances in 2019 the UAF lost their land at Longwarry, Victoria. Despite this setback and covid lockdown, the group continued to form an unbreakable bond that kept the shared purpose of finding new farmland and glowing alive.
In late 2021 the UAF successfully signed an agreement for 3 acres of farmland in Officer South, thanks to the generosity of a local farmer. The new farm was launched in February 2022, with over 100 community members, supporters, and local organizations attending an event. At this new site, the UAF currently plant and grow crops of cultural significance and connection to our roots and provide produce to local food security agencies, social enterprises, and the community.
Not as if the first disaster was enough; in 2022, we were hit again by the flood that affected most parts of Victoria. The flood swept away all our ready-to-harvest crops i.e, kale, and garlic and destroyed most of our farm equipment which was stored in the containers onsite.
October is the month we start planting our summer crops, and this is when the community comes together, but due to the flooding, we cannot commence our work.
We are seeking your support to save our farm;
Clean and restore decaying equipment
Purchase the gravel to restore our washed-off carpark.
Establish a drainage system to drain off the stagnant water.
Mow and clear the overgrown grass.
Plough, clean, and prepare new beds for planting,
Buy compost and fertilization in the area affected by run-off water leaching.
These can make us bounce back to activate our farm.
Our goal…
The United African Farm heavily relies on the generosity of our community. Your contributions toward our $25,000 goal will help keep our farm in operation for one year, ensuring our local community can continue to benefit from our programs, activities, and produce
