This is our little boy Cookie. He is 1 and a half years old, and has brought more joy to our lives than we could ever imagine. He is affectionate, playful and loves nothing more than to cuddle with us and his sister every night.

3 days ago, we noticed he wasn’t being his usual energetic self and as the night progressed we took him to the late night emergency centre where we were told he was dehydrated and needed scans and blood tests the next day. When we took him down for his blood test the Vet told us that he would need to stay overnight and that it’s quite serious as he has a lot of abnormal fluid in his abdomen.

Later that night we got a call telling us he thought that from the blood test results it was probably Feline Infectious Peritonitis (FIP), a disease that many cats carry but very few are affected by, but in the cases they are affected the result is fatal. We went down the next morning thinking we had to put our little boy down but after a meeting with the specialist he told us he does not think it is FIP as the symptoms didn’t match up, but he would need surgery as soon as possible to identify any ruptures in his organs and take live tissue samples to have sent off to other labs.

The surgery alone will cost us $5,000 aswell as $1,000 each overnight stay for care and treatment. As university students we can’t afford to provide what he needs but we refuse to give up on him as he is the most important thing in the world to us.

It is not guaranteed that he will survive the surgery but without it we will have to let him go. Any donation is appreciated more than you could ever imagine. Cookie is fighting as hard as he can for us and we can’t give up on him. We just want him to come home.
