SAVE OUR CHILDREN: Reform Child Welfare in the US

To save our children they must first be seen. They must be made a national priority. Focus has to shift from the rights of all others to precede the rights of children, and be solely placed on the right of our children to live safely, supported, and free of all violence. All levels of government are failing our children. Designed to be of, by and for the people, this must include the smallest among us. Tragically, it does not.

My name is Elizabeth Herd. I am a writer, author, and independent child advocate known as Sean’s Voice.

Since the violent murder of my toddler grandson, Sean, in 2007, I have worked tirelessly to prevent child abuse and neglect, while also bringing awareness to all issues related to children’s rights in the United States, or more aptly, the lack thereof.

Children in Crisis is my latest book, and lays out the state of child welfare in the United States; how we got here, why, and what needs to happen to change the status quo. It is a thoroughly researched call to action – to every member of Congress, and the members of every state legislature forming this union – from the voices of every American – all of us, whose lives are affected in a myriad of ways by their failure to protect our most vulnerable citizens. It is a demand for justice, and for reform to the broken system that has been allowed to destroy lives, far too long, with zero accountability.
